The Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) is a federal government research university located in Zaria, Kaduna State. ABU was founded on October 4, 1962, as the University of Northern Nigeria. The university is named after the Sardauna of Sokoto, Alhaji Sir Ahmadu Bello, the first premier of Northern Nigeria.
Consisting of eighty-two (82) Academic Departments, twelve (13) Faculties, and twelve (12) Research Institutes and Specialized Centres, the University offers both undergraduate and postgraduate courses in such diverse fields as Agriculture.

The university also has a Division of Agric Colleges (DAC) a research institution established before the university was but later merged with the university. The Faculty of Medicine was upgraded to the College of Medical Sciences in 2018, with five faculties;

Faculty of Allied Health Sciences.
The university runs a wide variety of undergraduate and graduate programs (and offers associate degrees and vocational and remedial programs).
